The Railway Hotel came under new management after falling into disrepair following the previous owner’s arrest in 2016. The brief was to breathe new life into the venue, and encourage both familiar faces and newcomers to make their way to the bar. The Railway Hotel was renamed Hotel Railway, respecting the past but signalling the new owner’s hopes to “turn this place around”, and the long and illustrious past of the old pub became a source of inspiration for the identity. The nearby train line inspired the graphic system, and the colour palette is informed by the many shades of clay that reflect the neighbourhood’s history as a brickworks industry. Old stories will live on, with Hotel Railway set to re-open 2020.
